Namibia seeks to collaborate with Zimbabwe on economic development

Namibia’s Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations, and Employment Creation, Honourable Utoni Nujoma, expressed his country’s interest in leveraging Zimbabwe’s extensive knowledge in various sectors during a recent visit to Harare. Meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the State House, Nujoma emphasized the importance of sharing ideas on economic emancipation between the two nations.

Following their closed-door discussion, Nujoma reflected on his historical ties with the region’s liberation movements, noting his past experiences as a youth activist in Algeria alongside leaders from ANC, SWAPO, and ZANU-PF. He remarked, “Now we are looking forward to seeing how we can bring meaningful economic independence to our region.”

Highlighting the significance of learning from Zimbabwe’s journey, Nujoma stated, “We have learned great lessons from His Excellency, President Mnangagwa.” He described the meeting as a gathering of freedom fighters aimed at sharing strategies and experiences. Nujoma also recalled his long-standing relationship with President Mnangagwa, dating back to their roles as ministers of justice during a pivotal period in both countries’ histories. He noted their collaboration on land reform issues, stating, “I’m happy we have done a great job.”

With Namibia set to hold elections in November, alongside upcoming elections in Mozambique and Botswana, Nujoma’s visit underscores the importance of regional cooperation and solidarity in addressing common challenges and fostering economic growth.
