Tragic deaths of Chegutu women under investigation

Police in Mashonaland West are currently investigating the tragic and mysterious deaths of two women from Chegutu, who were found deceased after going in search of firewood. The incident occurred at Stockday farm, located on the outskirts of Chegutu.

According to Inspector Ian Kohwera, the provincial police spokesperson, the deceased have been identified as Sekasai Antonio (59) and Alice Zhuwao (54), both residents of P Section, Pfupajena, Chegutu. The two women departed their homes on September 6, 2024, around 9:00 AM to gather firewood from Stockday farm. When they did not return as expected, their family members initiated a search around the farm.

The search extended over two days, culminating on September 8, 2024, when the bodies of the two women were discovered about 100 meters apart in a bush within the farm. Inspector Kohwera reported that Sekasai Antonio’s body showed signs of severe trauma, including a deep cut on her head, bruises on her neck, arms, and legs, and indications that she might have been sexually abused. Alice Zhuwao’s body was also found with a deep cut on her head.

The bodies have been taken to Chegutu District Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The circumstances surrounding their deaths are both alarming and tragic, prompting a call from the police for public assistance.

“This is a sad and disturbing case,” Inspector Kohwera stated. “We are appealing for any information that might assist in our investigations to apprehend the suspect. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to approach the nearest police station.” The community remains in shock as the investigation continues, seeking answers to this unsettling crime.
