Winpeg Moyo, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Kenya, Uganda, and Somalia, has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Nairobi Chapter. The announcement was made during a ceremony held at the Embassy of Angola in Kenya. Ambassador Moyo takes over from Angola’s Ambassador to Kenya, Sianga Abilio, marking a significant transition in the leadership of the SADC Nairobi Chapter.
In her speech at the ceremony, Ambassador Moyo emphasized the strength and unity of the SADC region in safeguarding its sovereignty and defending the interests of its member states. She highlighted the region’s collective efforts to protect against sanctions and to garner international support for regional projects.
“SADC countries have shown remarkable solidarity in protecting member states from sanctions and encouraging global support for our regional projects,” Moyo said. She expressed appreciation for SADC’s role in advocating for the removal of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe and reiterated the region’s commitment to addressing conflict areas.
“Through collective efforts, we aim to restore peace in these areas and advance the vision of a united, prosperous, and resilient Southern Africa,” she added. Ambassador Moyo also stressed the importance of collaboration and partnerships with other nations. She pledged that the SADC Nairobi Chapter would continue to work closely with the Government of Kenya to implement mutually beneficial programs and initiatives.
This new role positions Ambassador Moyo to play a crucial part in advancing SADC’s objectives in the Nairobi region, furthering the organization’s mission of regional integration and development.
