A 54-year-old man was apprehended by the Flying Squad team from Waterberg and Capricorn districts on Sunday, October 13, 2024, for possession of a vehicle suspected to be hijacked. The arrest occurred along the N1 North highway, between the Kranskop and Nyl plazas, during routine police patrols.
Officers noticed a suspicious white Toyota Fortuner being driven alone and quickly approached the vehicle. Preliminary investigations revealed that the car had been reported stolen in Garsfontein, Gauteng Province, earlier in October 2024. Authorities suspect that the vehicle was intended for smuggling across the Beit Bridge Border into Zimbabwe.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene, and the vehicle was recovered. Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, commended the officers for their swift action. “The successful arrest and recovery of the vehicle is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our law enforcement teams,” General Hadebe stated.
The suspect is set to appear before the Mokopane Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, as police investigations into the hijacking and smuggling operation continue.
