A 26-year-old man from Mbezi, Beitbridge, identified as Melusi Ngwenya, has been brought before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court on charges of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs. Ngwenya appeared in court and was remanded to October 7 for trial.
The court heard that on September 27, police detectives and security officers were conducting an operation aimed at curbing illegal cross-border activities at Dulibadzimu Bus Terminus in Beitbridge. During this operation, they observed Ngwenya carrying luggage wrapped in black plastic.
Upon approaching him, the officers identified themselves and searched his belongings. They discovered four cobs of dagga hidden among chicken cuts, also wrapped in black plastic. The total weight of the seized dagga was 9.822 kg, with an estimated street value of ZWG132,508. Ngwenya was promptly arrested and now faces legal proceedings for the drug-related offense.
