Mzilikazi High School teacher takes colleagues to court over harassment allegations

In a dramatic legal battle, Plaxedis Kumbirayi Munyaradzi, a teacher at Mzilikazi High School, has filed a lawsuit against five of her colleagues, alleging sexual harassment and emotional abuse. The case has drawn significant attention due to its serious accusations and the tense atmosphere reported within the school.

Munyaradzi claims that one of the accused, Ruth Muzanangwo, obtained nude photos of her from the wife of Munyaradzi’s ex-lover and threatened to release them publicly. She also accuses Muzanangwo of spreading damaging rumors about her personal life, including false claims of sexual abuse by her ex-partner. In response, Muzanangwo denied all allegations, asserting that Munyaradzi’s claims are unfounded and the product of her imagination.

The conflict has reportedly escalated to a point where previous police reports and investigations by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education were initiated. Muzanangwo expressed frustration over the situation, claiming that the involved parties have been enduring significant distress due to Munyaradzi’s actions.

Another accused, Lawrence Mashakani, stands accused of sending Munyaradzi sexually suggestive messages and inappropriately touching her in the staff room. Munyaradzi alleges that he grabbed her from behind and rubbed against her, which Mashakani refuted, claiming he had distanced himself from her following a disagreement.

Additionally, Munyaradzi sought a peace order against Nokuthula Hlabangana, alleging that Hlabangana instigated turmoil by spreading rumors about her personal life and sharing her nude photos. Hlabangana denied these claims, emphasizing that the environment at the school has become increasingly toxic. The allegations extend to Constance Sibanda, the wife of Munyaradzi’s ex-lover, who is accused of collaborating with others to damage Munyaradzi’s reputation. Sibanda characterized Munyaradzi as “full of drama” and denied any involvement in the alleged harassment.

Munyaradzi has also accused her ex-lover, Eric Ngwenya, of sexual assault, though this case was reportedly settled earlier. Ngwenya countered by stating that Munyaradzi had insulted his wife. In a recent court ruling, presiding magistrate Challenge Mahembe granted Munyaradzi a peace order against all five colleagues. This order prohibits any form of verbal and emotional abuse and mandates that the accused maintain peaceful relations with her moving forward. The situation remains tense as the school community grapples with the fallout from these serious allegations.
