Presidential title deeds and regularisation programme progresses in Epworth

The Presidential Title Deeds and Regularisation Programme is making significant strides, with over 1,000 residents of Epworth already having benefited. The initiative aims to provide land security to citizens, and according to Deputy Chief Registrar of Deeds, Mrs. Elizabeth Nyagura, an additional 10,000 residents are set to receive title deeds.

Speaking in Harare this Tuesday, Mrs. Nyagura reported, “The program is progressing very well. We have so far issued 1,000 title deeds to help the beneficiaries. As of now, we have more than 9,000 beneficiaries. We have already signed the newsletters and are now awaiting the issuance of title deeds.”

The initiative is not limited to Epworth; the government has expanded its efforts to include Chitungwiza, where a new office is operational for processing details and signing offer letters for beneficiaries.

Concerns were raised about the proliferation of bogus estate agents taking advantage of vulnerable citizens. Mr. Nico Kuipa, Chairperson of the Estate Agents Council of Zimbabwe, highlighted the challenge posed by land barons, urging the government to take action against these unscrupulous individuals. “We are having a serious challenge in our sector because land barons are taking advantage and fleecing unsuspecting people of their cash,” he stated.

In response, Deputy Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Honorable Nobert Mazungunye, emphasized the importance of the real estate sector to Zimbabwe’s socio-economic transformation. He noted that the sector contributes significantly to job creation, infrastructure development, and economic growth.

“The real estate sector generates millions of jobs across various sectors, including construction, property management, finance, legal services, and ancillary industries like retail and hospitality. As a government, we are working diligently to protect citizens from land barons who are fleecing them of their money,” he assured. The Presidential Title Deeds and Regularisation Programme was launched by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Epworth last year, aiming to provide security of tenure and formalize land ownership for many Zimbabweans.
