Wicknell Chivayo honors John Landa Nkomo with generous donations

Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has made headlines again with his latest philanthropic efforts, this time honoring the legacy of the late John Landa Nkomo, who served as Vice President of Zimbabwe from 2009 to 2013. Chivayo announced a donation of US$250,000 to the John Landa Nkomo Trust and presented a 2024 Ford Ranger Wildtrak 3.0L V6 double cab pickup valued at USD 80,000.

Taking to Instagram, Chivayo celebrated Nkomo’s life and contributions, referring to him as an “icon” and a “hero.” He reflected on Nkomo’s legacy, highlighting his roots in Tsholotsho and his esteemed lineage as a descendant of King Mzilikazi. “CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF A LIBERATION WAR HERO…A GALLANT SON OF THE SOIL,” Chivayo wrote, expressing pride in sharing the name “Baba John,” which he gave to his son in honor of Nkomo.

Chivayo emphasized the significance of his donations, stating that the US$250,000 would support various legacy projects under the trust, which aims to continue Nkomo’s work in education and community empowerment, particularly in Matabeleland North Province.

In addition to the monetary donation, Chivayo expressed his gratitude to the Nkomo family for accepting his contributions, viewing them as a personal acknowledgment of Nkomo’s immense impact on Zimbabwe’s future. “It is my singular honor that the Nkomo family accepted this token as my personal appreciation to the IMMENSE role that this legend – though no longer amongst us – played in shaping our future,” he said. Chivayo’s gesture highlights the ongoing effort to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Zimbabwe’s liberation heroes, fostering a sense of community and remembrance among the people.
