Flamboyant and controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has once again made headlines—this time for gifting Mai Mukombe, the wife of popular Zimbabwean musician Jah Prayzah, a brand-new 2024 Land Rover Defender 2.4 D as part of the artist’s birthday celebrations.
Jah Prayzah, whose real name is Mukudzei Mukombe, turned 37 on July 4, 2024. Known for his towering influence on Zimbabwe’s music scene and beyond, the singer has often been on the receiving end of Chivayo’s extravagant generosity. However, this year’s birthday gesture took a more personal and symbolic turn, as Chivayo chose to honour the often-unseen support system behind the star—his wife.
In a heartfelt social media post made on Friday, Chivayo explained the inspiration behind his latest grand gesture. He expressed his admiration for the “quiet power” and unwavering encouragement that women like Mai Mukombe provide behind the scenes of successful men.
“On this SPECIAL DAY, I wish to celebrate you differently, acknowledging the QUIET POWER behind the man we know as JAH PRAYZAH,” wrote Chivayo. “As men, we often overlook the WOMEN who stand firmly behind us, giving us all the SUPPORT and encouragement.”
He went on to describe wives and mothers as the glue holding everything together while their husbands pursue demanding careers. He praised Mai Mukombe for her role in Jah Prayzah’s life and career, stating, “As they say, behind every GREAT MAN is a GOOD WOMAN.”

As part of this appreciation, Chivayo invited her to visit Exquisite Car Dealership to collect the fully paid-for luxury SUV, describing it as a “small but heartfelt token of appreciation.”
“Please ask JAH to go with you and see Victor at Exquisite Car Dealership. Your new 2024 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 2.4 D FULL SPEC is ready for collection and FULLY PAID FOR,” he added. “To my brother JP, take notes: Happy Wife, Happy Life!”
The Land Rover Defender, known for its blend of rugged performance and luxury features, is valued at over US$100,000, depending on custom specifications. The gift reflects both Chivayo’s deep admiration for Jah Prayzah and his tendency to make grand public displays of support for those he champions.
This gesture is far from an isolated act. Over the past two years, Chivayo has become something of a patron for Jah Prayzah and his Third Generation Band, offering both the musician and his team a series of high-value gifts that have stunned the public.
In January 2024, Jah Prayzah received a Mercedes-Benz S500, reportedly worth US$180,000, as an appreciation gift from Chivayo. Just months later, in December, Chivayo gave the artist a Toyota Aqua specifically for his son’s school runs.
Then, in May 2025, Chivayo escalated his generosity by gifting Jah Prayzah a fully paid-for 2025 Range Rover Autobiography, one of the most luxurious SUVs available on the market. The vehicle, known for its opulent interior and high-performance engineering, costs upwards of US$200,000.
Not content with only spoiling Jah Prayzah, Chivayo also extended his generosity to the band members. In a show of gratitude, he presented ten senior members of the Third Generation Band with brand-new Toyota Aquas, promising to gift the remaining 16 members by August 2025, bringing the total number of vehicles given to the band to 26.
Chivayo’s flamboyant style has drawn both admiration and criticism, particularly on social media where opinions about his wealth and motives are frequently debated. But the businessman has shown he’s not one to shy away from controversy.
In response to growing criticism over his financial support for Jah Prayzah, Chivayo famously pledged in January 2025 to donate US$10 for every negative comment made online about the musician. True to his word, he later handed over US$150,000 in cash.
That generosity continued in May 2025, when—alongside gifting the Range Rover—he again gave Jah Prayzah US$150,000. And most recently, in December 2025, after Jah Prayzah headlined the Harare Shutdown Concert, Chivayo rewarded him with an additional US$20,000 in cash.
While some have labelled the acts as performative or excessive, many fans have praised Chivayo for supporting local talent and honouring not only the artists but also those who support them in silence.
With his latest gesture, Chivayo appears to be broadening his message—celebrating not just fame and talent, but also the often-unnoticed strength of women like Mai Mukombe who, in his words, “make success possible from the shadows.”
