Mai Jeremaya Candidly Opens Up About Her First Sexual Experience

Popular socialite and influencer Mai Jeremaya, born Ashley Masendeke, opened up in an emotionally charged and revealing interview with DJ Ollah on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Known for her outspoken personality and online presence, the mother of three peeled back the layers of her public persona to share deeply personal experiences — from losing her virginity to becoming a mother at 21, and the tough realities that followed.

Mai Jeremaya began the interview by reflecting on her early university days at Midlands State University (MSU), where she said she had her first sexual experience during her first year. In a surprisingly honest admission, she revealed that both she and her then-boyfriend were so inexperienced that they didn’t realize she had lost her virginity until much later.

“I was in first year, second semester. I don’t think I should mention the guy, but we both didn’t even know it had happened,” she said. “It was difficult to tell. I only realized my virginity was gone after months and months of trying. We didn’t understand what we were doing.”

Although the relationship was short-lived — lasting just two semesters — she later reconnected with an ex-boyfriend from the same class. She noted that she has always been drawn to men her own age, preferring the balance and relatability such relationships offered at the time.

After rekindling her relationship with her classmate, life began to accelerate. By the age of 21, Mai Jeremaya found herself pregnant, and soon after, she became a young mother. What started as a whirlwind romance grounded in youthful passion and shared dreams quickly evolved into a sobering journey of responsibilities.

“After school, this ex became my first baby daddy. It was one of those rebellious relationships,” she admitted. “We thought we were so in love. We had all these plans about a perfect future. But life had different ideas.”

After completing her third-year industrial attachment, she landed a job at BancABC, which marked a major turning point in her life. With a new sense of financial independence came increased expectations about the lifestyle she wanted for herself and her child. Unfortunately, her partner was not in the same position to support those aspirations.

“I started working and earning a salary, and naturally, I wanted more,” she said. “I wanted to move out. We were still staying at his grandmother’s house in Chitungwiza. I had started working, dressing up, earning my own money, and I didn’t want to keep living like a schoolgirl. I wanted my environment to reflect my progress. But he wasn’t ready.”

As Mai Jeremaya financial independence grew, cracks began to form in the relationship. The couple found themselves on different trajectories, and their once-aligned dreams began to fall apart. Mai Jeremaya confessed that she struggled with the imbalance — trying to respect her partner while also chasing her own growth.

“I didn’t know then how important it is to insist on mutual contribution. I thought, ‘I’m providing everything now, maybe he’ll catch up later.’ But life doesn’t wait. That’s when I began to understand that love alone isn’t enough. Responsibility, timing, and maturity matter too,” she said.

Though she didn’t speak negatively about her child’s father, she acknowledged that they were simply not in sync anymore. The demands of parenting, working full-time, and maintaining a relationship at a young age became overwhelming.

Throughout the interview, Mai Jeremaya maintained a tone of reflection rather than regret. She used her experiences to highlight the importance of self-awareness, realistic expectations in relationships, and understanding one’s own worth.

“I don’t regret anything because these things made me who I am,” she told DJ Ollah. “But I do wish I had understood myself more back then. That way, I wouldn’t have put so much pressure on trying to force something to work when clearly we were just not ready.”

Her story resonated with many viewers, particularly young women navigating relationships, motherhood, and early adulthood. Social media was abuzz following the interview, with fans and critics alike praising her vulnerability and honesty.

Mai Jeremaya has transformed from a controversial online figure into a relatable voice for young women facing similar crossroads. Her openness in discussing topics often considered taboo — like losing virginity, financial imbalance in relationships, and young motherhood — adds a human dimension to her public image.

As she continues to grow her brand and connect with her audience, many now see her not just as an entertainer but as someone unafraid to share her truth — raw, real, and unfiltered.

“I’m not perfect. I’m just telling my story, and if it helps one girl out there to think twice, love herself more, or make better choices — then it’s worth it,” she said, closing the interview.
