Harare – 3 August 2025 | In an emotionally charged sermon delivered to a packed congregation, Apostle Talent Chiwenga made a dramatic public confession about the abrupt end of his marriage to Nyasha Vanessa Werenga, revealing that the union lasted only four days. Speaking with a mix of sorrow and defiance, Chiwenga warned of a looming smear campaign against him and pleaded with his followers not to “stone David,” a biblical reference to King David’s near execution by his own soldiers in a moment of rebellion.
Chiwenga’s statement, delivered from the pulpit during a live-streamed service, touched on sensitive personal details, including claims that his former wife attempted to poison him, as well as what he described as a coordinated effort to tarnish his image with leaked private recordings.
Chiwenga disclosed that although traditional and cultural marriage rites were completed in December 2023, his relationship with Werenga formally began in May 2024 during the public introduction at the Jesus Revelation Ministries’ Revelation Gathering. However, just 96 hours after the ceremony, he said he returned her to her family due to what he termed “irreparable irregularities” in her character and personal life.
“This is not a divorce,” he told his congregants. “We didn’t live long enough as husband and wife to even define it as such. It was an annulment—a necessary one. Even if I was given ten chances to stay with her, I would send her back all ten times.”
He accused Werenga of being dishonest about her readiness for life in ministry, and of concealing critical aspects of her past. “Some people are chameleons,” Chiwenga said cryptically, “and only reveal their true colours once the covenant is sealed.”
“Do Not Stone David”: Apostle Chiwenga Opens Up on 96-Hour Marriage, Poison Allegations, and Imminent Scandal
Among the most serious revelations was Chiwenga’s claim that Werenga had attempted to poison him, echoing a previous incident he has often referenced in his sermons. However, confusion emerged when he stated that the earlier poisoning attempt happened in 2006—contradicting his longstanding public account that it took place in 2016. The discrepancy did not go unnoticed by critics online, some of whom suggested the timeline inconsistency raises broader questions about the truthfulness of his testimony.
Nevertheless, Chiwenga remained adamant. “It was poison. The same pattern. And I will say this again—I’m not afraid of death. I have survived it before. I’m not going to be silenced by fear.”
In a somber tone, Chiwenga warned that videos and audios secretly recorded during his brief marriage were about to surface, and he urged his congregation not to be swayed by what he described as a malicious campaign to destroy his credibility.
“There are recordings being prepared right now,” he said. “They were taken without my consent. They will be distributed widely to discredit me. But remember David, and do not stone him. I have been honest with you before the storm hits.”
He urged his followers to stand firm and discern truth from manipulation. “They will say many things. They will show you edited clips. But ask yourselves: What spirit is driving this agenda?”
As news of the confession spread online, Zimbabweans responded with a mixture of sympathy, ridicule, and criticism. Some praised Chiwenga’s honesty and courage in admitting the failure of his marriage so publicly, while others saw the confession as a tactic to pre-empt scandal and avoid accountability.
“This is a pastor who has been through a lot. He needs our prayers, not our condemnation,” one supporter wrote on Facebook.
But others were more cynical. “How does a man of God marry a woman he barely knows, then blame her for everything?” one user commented on X. “This is not leadership. This is confusion.”
Another added: “Pastors must lead by example. If your house is in disarray, how can you preach order to others?”This is not the first time Apostle Chiwenga’s personal life has drawn public scrutiny. In 2019, he lost his first wife, Melody, in a tragic car accident that he believes was a politically motivated assassination attempt. The crash left him severely injured and marked the beginning of a phase in which his sermons became more confrontational, both politically and theologically.
In the years since, he has built a reputation as a fearless, often controversial religious leader who regularly rebukes political elites, fellow pastors, and even members of his own congregation.
Despite the intense backlash and pending scandal, Chiwenga remained resolute that he would not be silenced or shamed into retreat. “I am not perfect,” he said. “But I serve a perfect God who uses broken vessels for His purpose.”
As the drama continues to unfold, Zimbabweans—supporters and critics alike—are watching closely. Whether this marks a moment of personal reckoning or the beginning of a deeper crisis remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: Apostle Chiwenga’s spiritual and public journey is far from over.
