Zimbabwean musician Rockford “Roki” Josphats has found himself at the centre of a social-media storm after a video showed him arguing with a woman at what appears to be a lodge.

The short clip spread rapidly across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Several entertainment and gossip pages claimed the dispute started after Roki allegedly refused to pay the woman following an intimate encounter.

However, those claims remain unverified.

The video shows a tense confrontation involving the musician and the woman. Nevertheless, it does not provide independent proof that she is a sex worker. It also does not establish that Roki received sexual services or refused to make an agreed payment.

Viral video sends Roki’s name trending

The Roki viral video quickly divided Zimbabweans online. Some viewers treated the incident as entertainment, while others questioned whether the clip told the full story.

Several social-media users criticised the musician based on captions attached to the video. Meanwhile, others warned that the public should not accept those descriptions as fact without hearing from everyone involved.

Pages sharing the video claim that the woman accused Roki of refusing to pay her after an alleged sexual encounter. Some posts described her as a “thigh vendor,” a slang term commonly used in Zimbabwean social-media discussions about sex workers.

However, no reliable news organisation has independently confirmed her occupation or the alleged agreement.

The woman has also not released a verified public statement explaining the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. Similarly, no contract, payment record or other evidence has emerged to support the online narrative.

As a result, publications should describe the story as a viral lodge dispute involving unverified payment claims. Reporting that Roki definitively failed to pay a sex worker would go beyond the available evidence.

Has Roki responded to the video?

The woman in the video also deserves protection from online insults and unsupported claims about her personal life. Identifying someone as a sex worker without verified evidence can expose that person to humiliation, harassment and possible danger.

Likewise, Roki should not face definitive accusations based only on captions added by third-party social-media pages.
