Armed robbers allegedly overpowered security guards at a manufacturing plant of the Kambucha energy drink in Harare around 1 AM on Wednesday and stole about US$900 000.
The raid occurred at 17001 Sande Crescent in the Graniteside industrial area.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed to ZimLive that police were investigating the armed robbery. He said:
We confirm the robbery but we are yet to ascertain how it happened and the exact of money stolen.
ZimLive reported sources at the company as saying an estimated US$900 000 was taken by six armed men.
The suspects allegedly overpowered security guards to gain entry into the premises and then used explosives to blow up the safe where the money was kept. An employee said:
The amount stolen is close to a million dollars but management plan to understate it to the police to avoid scrutiny.
