South African businessman Shepherd Chipatiko is seeking the return of R1.6 million (approximately US$91,000) that he spent on lobola and wedding festivities from his ex-wife following the collapse of their brief marriage amid serious personal accusations.
Chipatiko, whose marriage to Varaidzo Marylyn Kunze ended in December last year, is also pursuing legal action against her for R15,000, alleging that she spread false information about him. He claims that Kunze even proposed that he marry her daughter, Thando Sibanda, an offer he rejected.
In addition to the financial demands, Chipatiko has offered a R10,000 reward for information leading to Kunze’s whereabouts. The couple was married for a short period and did not have children together.
“I now demand repayment of R755,000 for lobola and wedding expenses, a luxury car worth R385,000, and a R100,000 Bitcoin loan,” Chipatiko stated.
He accused Kunze of falsely claiming pregnancy, misrepresenting her age, and concealing the true number of her children. Chipatiko further seeks R15,000 for damage to his reputation. “We separated in December last year after I provided her with R188,000 to start afresh following her repeated lies,” Chipatiko explained. “She falsely claimed pregnancy and was in a relationship with someone in South Africa.”
He alleges that Kunze misled him about her age and even suggested that he marry her 25-year-old daughter. Chipatiko’s legal representatives, Kevin James McCallum Attorneys, have written to Kunze, accusing her of defamatory statements on various social media platforms and demanding retractions, apologies, and removal of all offending posts.
The lawyers also demand repayment of the R100,000 Bitcoin loan and the full R1,655,000 spent on lobola and wedding expenses, emphasizing the financial and reputational damage caused to Chipatiko. In conclusion, the lawyers insisted on prompt compliance within 24 hours, warning of potential legal consequences for Kunze’s alleged actions, including forgery and violation of privacy laws.
