Zimbabwean gospel artists Everton Mlalazi and Dorcas Moyo have emerged victorious at the 8th CLIMA Africa Awards, held over the weekend in Abuja, Nigeria. Their impressive wins have not only elevated their profiles but also highlighted the vibrant talent emerging from Zimbabwe.
Everton Mlalazi, the lead vocalist of “The Worship Therapy,” made waves in the international gospel scene by taking home three prestigious awards. He was honored with the Africa Best Male Gospel Artiste Award, and the Africa Gospel Music Viewers’ Choice Award, and his manager, Pretty Mlalazi, won the Best Manager Award. This recognition places Mlalazi among gospel music giants, as he competed against notable names such as Ebuka Songs, Dunsin Oyekan, Frank Edwards, and Israel Mbonyi.
In a heartfelt message on social media, Mlalazi expressed his gratitude to Zimbabweans for their unwavering support, crediting their encouragement for his success. His multilingual approach to music has resonated with audiences, further solidifying his impact on the genre.
Dorcas Moyo also took center stage by winning the Africa Best Female Artiste of the Year Award. Facing stiff competition from some of Africa’s biggest stars, including Nigeria’s Mercy Chinwo, South Africa’s Winnie Mashaba, and Kenya’s Janet Otieno, Moyo’s victory stands as a testament to her talent and hard work. She too shared her thanks on social media, emphasizing the importance of community support in her journey.
The theme of this year’s awards, “The Re-birth,” reflects a new era for CLIMA Africa, aimed at celebrating and recognizing Christian talents and influential figures across the continent. Both Mlalazi and Moyo’s achievements not only honor their journeys but also shine a light on Zimbabwe’s rich gospel music scene, inspiring a new generation of artists. As they bask in their well-deserved glory, Mlalazi and Moyo continue to pave the way for future gospel musicians from Zimbabwe, proving that with talent and dedication, success on an international stage is achievable.
