The Government says it is in the process of fast tracking the completion of several dams across the country as a means of ensuring water availability for all.
It (government) has since set aside US$18 million directed towards the completion of these dams.
The country joined the rest of the world in commemorating the World Water Day and the Word Meteorological Day celebrated every 22nd and 23rd of March respectively, with government placing emphasis on the need to address water challenges through completion of dams and other water bodies that are currently under construction across the country.
Addressing water and climate stakeholders in Mutare yesterday evening, Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement Retired Air Chief Marshal Honourable Perrance Shiri said the US$18 million availed by Treasury in already in good use.
Minister Shiri also spoke on climate change said the recent Cyclone Idai has exposed dangerous gaps which the government should work on to address mitigation measures to avoid loss of human lives for similar disasters in the future.
Speaking at the same occasion, Chimanimani East legislator Cde Joshua Sacco said it is everyone’s duty to exercise ways that do not impact on climate change.
The World Water Day was commemorated under the theme, “Leaving No One Behind” while the World Meteorological Day was also marked under the banner, “The Sun, The Earth and The Weather”.
