Lobola’s negotiation was canceled after they discovered that the bride has a tattoo on her thigh. The unfortunate discovery was made during the bride’s virginity testing.
The Malume were not happy that their son wanted to marry someone with a tattoo as they don’t know who drew it.
There have been a lot of concerns over these virginity tests as to whether they are necessary or they cause trouble. In this instance, the Malume were worried about who exactly put the tattoo because according to tradition those parts are sacred and should not be accessed.
There has been concerns over purity on the side of the man also as to why they are not checked and who should check them and why it does not matter.
