In case you missed it, the Trabablas Interchange, formerly known as the Mbudzi Interchange, is a major infrastructure project in Harare, Zimbabwe. Situated at the intersection of Simon Mazorodze, Chitungwiza, and High Glen roads, the interchange aims to alleviate severe traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest junctions.
The project involves constructing 15 bridges, with 13 directly on the interchange and two on Amalinda Drive and Harare Drive. As of December 2024, the interchange was approximately 91% complete, with 13 of the 15 bridges constructed. The Zimbabwean government announced that upon completion, the interchange would be officially named the “Trabablas Interchange” in honour of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, recognising his leadership and contributions to the nation’s development. “Trabablas” was President Mnangagwa’s nom-de-guerre during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.
