The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is currently reviewing the Competence Based Curriculum Framework, to assess implementation and identify gaps which need attention.
Responding to questions from editors during a media engagement in Darwendale this week Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Mrs Tumisang Thabela said capacitation of teachers on the new curriculum is an ongoing process.
“Capacitation of teachers is an ongoing process. Even after we have given them the full knowledge of the competence-based curriculum then came the need for digital tools and quite a number of our teachers are not comfortable with the use of these tools so we have to do a lot of online and face-to-face training, but there is still a long way to go,” she said.
The country’s curriculum review process is predicated on a seven-year recycle to continuously adjust and improve the existing educational practices in the light of emerging national and global socio-economic trends.
Journalists from various media houses across the country applauded the government for prioritising the education sector.
Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Communications and Advocacy Director Mr Taungana Ndoro said the curriculum review processes is vital in shaping the country’s education system which is the bedrock of future education.
The government is rolling out several initiatives to transform the country’s education system such as building more classroom blocks in rural areas, electrification of rural schools and introducing of ICTs in schools.
