Cholera cases are on the rise in Zimbabwe after an outbreak three months ago. By the end of this week, 834 cases had been recorded from the country’s 10 provinces.
The government has attributed the outbreak to poor sanitation, contaminated water supplies, and cross-border mobility.
The capital Harare is one of the cholera hotspots.
Mayor Jacob Mafume says contaminated water sources are behind the outbreak in the capital, but he believes the situation is under control.
This year’s first cholera case was recorded in February in the town of Chegutu in northwest Zimbabwe.
In 2018 and 2019, at least 10,000 cholera cases were recorded in Zimbabwe with 69 deaths.
