Drake leads with 7 nominations in BET Awards 2023

Rap superstar Drake swept the nominations for the awards show highlighting Black excellence across music, television, film, and sports, scoring a leading seven nods. Nominations, released Thursday, were selected by the BET Voting Academy, which consists of entertainment professionals and influencers in music, media, digital marketing, and other areas.

The “Honestly, Nevermind” artist is up for major prizes including album of the year for his 21 Savage collaboration album “Her Loss,” best male hip-hop artist, best male R&B/Pop artist, best group with 21 Savage, and the viewer’s choice award for “Jimmy Cooks” with 21 Savage.

Hot on Drake’s heels is rap princess GloRilla, who racked up six nominations. The “F.N.F” rapper will be vying for awards including best female hip-hop artist, best new artist, album of the year for “Anyways, Life’s Great…” and video of the year for “Tomorrow 2” with Cardi B.

Hip-hop stars 21 Savage and Lizzo earned the third-highest number of nominations with five nods each.

The BET Awards will air live on BET on June 25 (8 PM ET/5 PM PT).

In other news – Kelis and Bill Murray are reportedly dating

Kelis’ milkshake brought Bill Murray to the yard. The 43-year-old “Milkshake” star is dating the 72-year-old Ghostbusters actor, according to a report by The Sun. While the duo have yet to confirm their romance publicly, Murray was spotted watching Kelis’ set at the Mighty Hoopla festival in London last weekend and the duo even posed for a photo backstage.

Kelis was previously married to Nas, though their marriage ended in 2009. In 2018, she alleged that he was physically abusive toward her during their five-year marriage, which Nas has since denied. Kelis’ second husband, Mike Mora, died of stomach cancer in March 2022. Read More
