The family members of Tapiwa Makore spoke out after the court ruling, expressing their appreciation for the justice that had been served. They thanked the court for the ruling and praised the efforts of the prosecution team in securing a guilty verdict against the perpetrators.
The family also expressed their hope that the ruling would send a strong message to others who might consider committing similar crimes. They emphasized the importance of justice being served in cases like this, in order to prevent such heinous acts from happening again in the future.
However, the family also spoke of the ongoing pain and trauma that they have experienced since Tapiwa’s murder and the fact that the perpetrators did not reveal the location of the missing body part. They requested that anyone with information about the location of the missing head come forward so that they could give Tapiwa a proper burial and closure.
After being found guilty of the brutal murder of seven-year-old Tapiwa Makore in 2020, Tafadzwa Shamba and Tapiwa Makore senior were sentenced to death. Today, on July 12, 2023, the High Court of Zimbabwe upheld the death sentence for the two men, dismissing their appeal against the ruling.
The court’s decision was welcomed by the victim’s family and the community, who had been eagerly awaiting justice for Tapiwa. The judge described the crime as “shocking and heinous,” and stated that the death penalty was an appropriate punishment in this case.
The case has drawn attention to the issue of ritual killings in Zimbabwe, and the government has vowed to take strong action against perpetrators of such crimes. The ruling sends a strong message that such crimes will not be tolerated in Zimbabwe, and that justice will be served for victims and their families.
