Man hits girlfriend with a golf club to death, spends night with corpse

A 38-year-old man has been arrested by Bulawayo police for allegedly striking his girlfriend to death with a golf club, before spending the night with the body in his bedroom. The spine-chilling incident that has left residents shocked, occurred on Sunday night in Nketa 7 suburb. Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said the suspect, Rodney Kaome has since been arrested.

We arrested Rodney Kaome of Nketa 7 suburb in connection with the death of his girlfriend Precious Vundla who was aged 24 years and also from the same suburb. The suspect is assisting us with investigations,” Insp Ncube.

Our Bulawayo Bureau yesterday visited the home of the deceased and spoke to family members who are demanding justice. The deceased’s sister, Ms Ntokozo Dube, said Kaome was an abusive man known for being violent in this neighbourhood.

The incident occurred on Sunday night and a tenant at Kaome’s house told us that she heard my sister screaming and went outside to investigate. When she got there, she told us that our sister collapsed at her feet and begged her to phone our mother,” said Ms Dube. She said after the tenant whom she declined to name, failed to get hold of their mother, she was awakened by screams coming from Kaome’s bedroom, with Vundla pleading for her life.

“She said she was screaming for help and pleading with him not to kill her. After a while, she said the noise died down and they slept. The following morning, the tenant woke up and called my sister’s name but she did not respond,” said Ms Dube. She said when Kaome left the house, the tenant went to his bedroom to check on the deceased and discovered she was dead.

The deceased was lying on the bed with a swollen face and she was bleeding from the mouth and nose. The suspect had covered her with blankets,” said Ms Dube. The matter was reported to the police leading to Kaome’s arrest.
