A new teaser for the last season of Netflix’s hit series The Crown has been released revealing to fans that King Charles III’s second Royal Wedding to Camilla Parker-Bowles will be featured in the sixth season.
The new hint confirmed The Crown’s upcoming final season will feature King Charles, played by Dominic West, as he grieves the tragic unexpected loss of his wife Princess Diana in 1997 and his journey of meeting and marrying his second wife Queen Camilla. The Crown is one of the streaming giant’s most popular series with the newest season taking the throne on Netflix’s Top 10 shows. The historical drama is a fan favourite with over 107.39 million hours watched during the debut of season five in November.
Netflix released the special hint for audiences on Monday posting on their Netflix UK & Ireland Twitter page with a photo of an order of service from the royal wedding at the Windsor Castle in April of 2005. The streaming service wrote: “After six seasons, seven years and three casts, @TheCrownNetflix comes to an end later this year. We’ll be back with more soon, but here’s a hint at what’s to come in our final season.”
Fans of The Crown took to Twitter following the teaser announcement sharing their excitement for the newest season of the thrilling drama series. One fan wrote: “I need 24 episodes with a run time of an hour each, while another added: “Gonna miss this one so bad! Peaky blinders & this one were absolute favs!”
A third responded: “I have loved every scene, minute and second of this show. I’m gutted to say goodbye. Emotionally not prepared. But also ready. All I will say – is I hope Peter Morgan really is considering that prequel, so that we can see even more history from previous reigning monarchs.”
This comes as producers of The Crown ensured that they are going to handle the depiction of Princess Diana’s death with care. In an interview at the Edinburgh TV Festival, executive producer Suzanne Mackie said: “The show might be big and noisy, but we’re not. We’re thoughtful people and we’re sensitive people. There were very careful, long conversations about how we were going to do it.”
The scenes of Princess Diana’s death were previously shot over a two-week period in October of last year with producers revealing the stress they experienced behind the scenes trying to recreate such a monumental moment in the Royal Family history. Mackie during the event said: “The audience will judge it in the end, but I think it’s been delicately, thoughtfully recreated. Elizabeth Debicki is an extraordinary actress and she was so thoughtful and considerate. She loved Diana. There’s a huge amount of respect from us all, I hope that’s evident.”
Some fans are concerned about Prince Harry as he is going to relive the traumatic moment from his past as he previously admitted to watching The Crown. In an explosive interview with The Late Show with Stephen Colbert earlier this year Harry was asked if he watched the popular Netflix series to which he responded: “Yes I do actually, which by the way is another reason why it’s so important that history has it right” as he gestured towards a copy of his memoir Spare.
The highly anticipated final season of The Crown is set to be released in December of 2023 on Netflix.
