I’m not dead – Chinese movie star Jet Li speaks out

Chinese-born Singaporean actor Jet Li made his first public appearance in over a year and declared that he is ‘well and alive’. The 60-year-old actor has been plagued by rumours of his death for years after a viral photo of him looking frail was circulated.

“There are still rumors in China saying that I’ve died. It’s been 10 years,” Li said with a laugh while promoting his book Beyond Life And Death: Jet Li Looking For Jet Li. The Bodyguard from Beijing actor said he was still surprised that people still fell for online death hoaxes about him, like the one that circulated in the Philippines claiming he died on May 26, 2018.

“Some people wish it’s true. Some say, ‘He’s still not dead yet? After so many reports of his death, he’s still not actually dead’,” Jet Li was quoted on Yahoo News. The star said his health took a heavy knock a decade ago when he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism.

He told the audience that keeping an optimistic outlook has helped him deal with the illness. These are things that are correlated to each other. I have hyperthyroidism, come! Get it cured! If it cannot be cured, I can still live happily,” said Jet Li.

Jet Li is best known for his role as a Chinese folk hero Wong Fei Hung in the Once Upon A Time In China film series. Some of his acclaimed movies include Fist of Legend, Hero, and Kiss of the Dragon.
