Retired Brigadier-General Michael Chaminuka, aged 62, passed away on Saturday evening at the Trauma Centre in Harare after a brief illness, as confirmed by his daughter, Dr. Michelle Chaminuka. Dr. Chaminuka fondly remembered her father as a “humble and quiet peacemaker.”
Brig-Gen Chaminuka was born on January 2, 1962, in Nkani Village, Hurungwe. He began his education at Kapfunde Primary School and later attended Columbus Secondary School until it was closed under the Ian Smith regime. Continuing his studies at St John’s Chikwaka Secondary School, he later crossed into Mozambique in late 1977 to join the liberation struggle. He underwent training at Tembwe Base 2 in 1978.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Lillian Chaminuka, and five children. Mourners are currently gathering at 353 Valyonga Close, Glen Lorne, Harare. Details regarding his burial arrangements will be communicated in due course.

Defense Minister Oppah Muchinguri’s daughter, Tanya Rushesha, avoided a court appearance for fraud charges by settling with her accusers.
