Top American singers to headline Zimbabwe’s Vine Choir concert

American gospel artists Jekalyn Carr and VaShawn Mitchell are slated as headline performers for the Vine Choir’s landmark 10th-anniversary concert at Harare International Conference Centre this Saturday. Dubbed The Vine Choir @10 Concert and Live DVD Recording, the event commemorates a decade of the choir’s influential presence in gospel music.

Established by Everton Mlalazi in 2014, the Vine Choir rose to prominence with their inaugural album “Musandipfuure” in 2018, followed by collaborations on the acclaimed 12-track album “The Great Physician.” This collaborative effort featured renowned South African Grammy winners such as Soweto Gospel Choir, Mahalia Buchanan, Mabongi Mabaso, and a distinguished 40-piece orchestra.

The concert, generously sponsored for online registrants to attend free of charge, promises a spectacular production complete with elaborate staging, captivating lighting, and flawless sound coordination. Mlalazi expressed his enthusiasm at hosting international luminaries alongside local talents, including a 100-piece orchestra from Johannesburg, a 30-piece brass section, a choir, and children from Adventist Pathfinders. Also gracing the event will be UK-based Zimbabwean vocalist Blessing Annatoria Chitapa.

Under the theme “Great is Thy Faithfulness,” the concert echoes profound gratitude for the divine blessings that have marked the choir’s journey. Attendees can expect an unforgettable musical extravaganza celebrating faith and musical excellence.
