Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering Zimbabwe’s vibrant cultural scene by once again sponsoring the Stanbic Bank Jacaranda Music Festival, a premier annual musical event. The festival, set to take place from October 4 to 6, 2024, at the Thorn Park Polo grounds in Harare, was officially launched in a high-profile event attended by notable figures from the arts and entertainment industry.
Patson Mahatchi, Stanbic Bank’s Head of Business and Commercial Banking, expressed the bank’s pride in supporting such a significant cultural event. “At Stanbic, we firmly believe that Zimbabwe is our home, and we drive her growth,” Mahatchi said. He highlighted the festival’s role in enriching Zimbabwean culture and heritage, noting its growth into a key regional music event.
The festival’s success was evident last year when it drew approximately 13,000 attendees and sold out of tickets. Mahatchi emphasized that Stanbic Bank’s support extends beyond mere sponsorship. The festival not only provides entertainment but also boosts tourism, showcases Zimbabwe’s cultural vibrancy, and contributes to employment and economic growth. “Our commitment to this continent and our nation is unwavering,” he stated, underscoring the bank’s broader goal of fostering economic and cultural development.
In addition to sponsoring the festival, Stanbic Bank has taken proactive steps to support local musicians. Last year, the bank introduced workshops designed to enhance musicians’ financial literacy and industry skills. This initiative will continue with a two-day workshop as part of the 2024 festival. The workshop aims to help musicians and creative artists maximize their financial returns and navigate industry challenges. “We are always looking for solutions to specific industry challenges,” Mahatchi said.
Walter Wanyanya, organiser of the festival and director of Ngoma neHosho, commended Stanbic Bank for its significant role in promoting arts and culture. Wanyanya praised the bank for living up to its promise by not only hosting the festival but also providing a platform for industry professionals through a music business conference. “We commend Stanbic Bank for providing a platform for industry professionals, artists, and aspiring musicians to engage in panels, workshops, and networking opportunities,” Wanyanya said.
Established in 2017, the Jacaranda Music Festival has grown to become a notable event in the region, featuring a diverse array of performances and a food village with bespoke vendors. The 2024 edition promises to uphold its tradition of showcasing exceptional musical talent, both local and international. Wanyanya emphasized that this year’s festival would continue to highlight Zimbabwe’s rich musical talent while celebrating the diversity of regional and global performers.
Stanbic Bank’s ongoing support underscores its dedication to nurturing Zimbabwe’s cultural landscape and economic development, making the Jacaranda Music Festival a key highlight in the country’s annual calendar of events.
