The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has conveyed its profound condolences to the Kano State Government, its people, and the grieving families of 21 athletes who tragically lost their lives in a fatal road accident at Gadar Yankifi, in the Garun Malam Local Government Area of Kano State.
The devastating incident occurred on Saturday as the young athletes were on their way home after participating in the recently concluded National Sports Festival held in Ogun State. What should have been a joyous journey marking their involvement in a prestigious sporting event instead turned into a national tragedy, casting a pall of sorrow across the country.
The Kano State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that 21 individuals were killed in the crash, while 11 others sustained various degrees of injuries. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, providing medical attention to the injured and helping with the recovery of the deceased.
The tragedy has triggered an outpouring of grief and solidarity from across the nation.
