Mutoko South MP Tasikani Leads Drive for Women’s Empowerment

Women in Mutoko South Constituency are reaping the benefits of a new economic empowerment initiative led by their Member of Parliament, Cde Isaac Tasikani (ZANU PF), who is championing community development through poultry farming.

As part of the project, Cde Tasikani recently donated 5,100 chicks along with starter feed packs to various women’s groups during a handover ceremony held at Mutoko Centre. The gesture aims to boost household income and promote food security in line with the government’s broader development agenda.

The chicks were distributed to the chairpersons of the benefiting women’s groups, with each group receiving a share based on its membership size. The donation is intended to kickstart sustainable poultry projects across the constituency, particularly benefiting rural women who often lack access to formal employment and income-generating opportunities.

Addressing attendees at the event, Cde Tasikani expressed pride in supporting the women of Mutoko South and praised President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership in prioritizing grassroots empowerment.

“I am honoured to donate 5,100 chicks and starter feed to the hardworking women of Mutoko South Constituency,” he said. “This initiative is in support of His Excellency President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, which aims to empower citizens and build a prosperous Zimbabwe. Through such projects, our women will not only become economically active but also improve the food security of their families.”

He encouraged the recipients to manage the poultry projects responsibly to ensure long-term success and sustainability. “If you nurture these chicks properly, you will be able to grow your business, support your families, and contribute meaningfully to the development of our community,” he added.

The donation was met with overwhelming gratitude and excitement from the beneficiaries, who described the gesture as a game-changer for women’s livelihoods in the area.

Mrs. Norma Tsiga, chairperson of the Kubatana group, whose members received 200 chicks, praised the initiative and said the project will have a lasting impact on their lives. “This is a very welcome development. Our MP has surprised us in the best way possible, and we’re excited,” she said. “We are committed to taking care of the chicks, and we are already seeing a brighter future ahead. We can now earn income, support our families, and become financially independent.”

Mrs. Faith Maramba, chairperson of the Nyamaere A group, echoed similar sentiments. “We are truly empowered. Our group received 200 chicks, and this shows that our MP is serious about uplifting women,” she said. “This project is more than just about poultry—it’s about dignity, independence, and community development. We thank Cde Tasikani for taking real steps toward women’s empowerment.”

In Ward 25, Mrs. Portia Mapisa, who leads the Chimurenga group, said the project had uplifted the spirits of many women who previously felt left out of development initiatives. “All of us are happy and proud. No MP has ever done this for us before. Today, we feel honoured and recognised,” she said. “This poultry project will not only feed our families but will also allow us to contribute to the local economy. As women, we are now playing an active role in developing Mutoko South.”

The initiative has been widely praised by local leaders and community members, who view it as a practical and empowering solution to economic challenges in rural areas. The project also aligns with national efforts to promote women’s participation in economic activities, particularly in agriculture and small-scale enterprise.

Cde Tasikani reaffirmed his commitment to supporting women in the constituency, promising to expand the program to reach more groups in future phases. He also encouraged other stakeholders, including NGOs and development partners, to collaborate with his office to scale up women-led projects across Mutoko South.

The poultry project marks a significant milestone in local development efforts, offering not just economic opportunities but also hope and empowerment to hundreds of women across the constituency. With proper care and support, the beneficiaries say they are confident the initiative will yield lasting benefits for their families and communities.
