Oprah Winfrey ‘s 69th birthday was the birthday bash of the year with all of the most notable celebrities in attendance – except one famous pair missing – Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. The absence of the couple from the event has led to speculation that they were purposely “shunned” from the event.
Winfrey’s birthday bash was held on January 29 and organized by the skincare company Anastasia Beverly Hills in honor of its 25th anniversary. At the event, famous celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Priyanka Chopra, and Sharon Stone were all pictured at the event celebrating Winfrey with heartfelt speeches and cake.
Some speculate the reason behind this missing invitation – and as other big Hollywood names beginning to distance themselves from the pair – comes from the fear of potentially damaging relationships with the royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton. This hesitance follows the controversy of the famous couple’s tell-all series “Harry & Meghan.”
In the groundbreaking series aired on Netflix, the couple tells their love story while also revealing information and claims of discrimination Meghan experienced from members of the royal family.
NewsNation’s senior story producer told the outlet’s host Nichole Berlie that the reason behind this is money and big Hollywood players are not going to jeopardize business for a friendship.
She said: “Everyone’s got a movie to sell and a Broadway play they want to debut on screen in London or [London’s] West End and they know that Prince William and Kate – who are the biggest [celebrity] gets over there won’t show if they think someone is friends with Harry and Meghan.”
This comes after the royal couple invited Winfrey to their wedding and had sat down in an interview with her in March of 2021. In the interview, the couple revealed to the talk show host their personal reasons for deciding to leave the royal family. The interview was one of the most-watched of Oprah’s career with an audience of over 7.1 million.
During their chat, Meghan and Harry made several allegations including a claim that one member of the Royal Family allegedly asked an inappropriate question about the color of their then-unborn son Archie.
