FIFA, the global football governing body, has decided to extend the tenure of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee by an additional six months. Originally led by Lincoln Mutasa, the committee faced an impending expiration at the end of last month, prompting speculations regarding the potential dismissal of the entire interim executive.
A delegation from FIFA is currently in Zimbabwe and has engaged with various stakeholders to deliberate on the way forward. Following these discussions, FIFA opted to extend the Normalisation Committee’s mandate. Notably, Cynthia Malaba and Sikhumbuzo Ndebele will not continue in their roles going forward.
The revised composition of the committee will now feature Lincoln Mutasa alongside Rosemary Mugadza and Nyasha Sanyamandwe. Their primary objective remains to formulate a roadmap for conducting the ZIFA executive committee elections, which are anticipated to take place between December and January.
Regarding the vacancies left by Malaba and Ndebele, FIFA has not yet indicated whether replacements will be announced. This decision is pending further consultations with Zimbabwe’s Sports and Recreation Commission.
The extension of the Normalisation Committee’s term underscores FIFA’s commitment to ensuring stability and adherence to governance standards within Zimbabwean football. As developments unfold, stakeholders will keenly observe how the committee navigates its responsibilities in preparing for the upcoming elections and addressing the broader needs of the football association.
This decision marks a pivotal moment for ZIFA as it strives to chart a course toward effective leadership and organizational stability under FIFA’s guidance.
