Mihlali Ndamase has publicly addressed allegations of being in an abusive relationship with businessman Leeroy Sidambe, breaking her silence and sharing her side of the story. The YouTuber’s revelation comes after a series of social media posts earlier this month, where she shared images of bruises on her forehead, lips, and under her eye, accompanied by a cryptic message thanking Sidambe. The posts were later deleted, leading to significant public speculation and controversy.
In response to these claims, Sidambe issued a statement denying any abuse, alleging that the bruises were the result of an incident in which he pushed Ndamase away after she allegedly attempted to stab him.
On Monday, Mihlali Ndamase took to social media to release an open letter, expressing the profound impact the public scrutiny has had on her personal life and her business. In her letter, Ndamase candidly discussed her experience, describing it as a deeply painful chapter in her life.
“It is with great vulnerability I admit I was involved in a toxic relationship. This relationship started off verbally and emotionally harmful and matters quickly escalated to it being physically harmful,” she wrote.
Ndamase acknowledged her role in the toxic dynamic, emphasizing the complexity and gradual escalation of such relationships. She described enduring gaslighting, aggression, emotional abuse, manipulation, and control tactics that distorted her perception of love, leading to significant personal pain and torment.
“One can only be quiet for so long after tolerating gaslighting, aggression, emotional abuse, manipulation, obsessive behaviour, and control tactics employed by an individual. The scars of this experience run deep and the trauma continues to echo in my personal life and in my business,” she said.
Ndamase’s letter underscores the importance of understanding and addressing emotional abuse and gender-based violence. She highlighted the need for education on these issues, acknowledging that such experiences are often complex and difficult to fully comprehend without personal experience.
“Such cases can be complex, escalate gradually over time, and are difficult for some to understand, especially if they have no personal experience. However, that does not discredit or invalidate my story as I have lived it,” she stated.
Despite the challenges she has faced, Ndamase expressed hope and determination to heal and reclaim her sense of dignity and self-worth. She is committed to seeking the necessary support and resources for her healing journey, with the hope of inspiring others to speak out, seek help, and break free from toxic environments.
“I am filled with hope and determination to embark on a journey of healing. Through my healing journey, I hope to inspire others to speak out, seek help, and break free from any toxic environment,” she concluded.
Mihlali Ndamase’s open letter serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of addressing and supporting individuals affected by abusive relationships and underscores the broader need for awareness and intervention in cases of emotional and physical abuse.
