A man from Marange was on Sunday trampled to death by an elephant while taking pictures of it.
Manicaland police spokesperson Tavhiringwa Kakokwa confirmed the incident yesterday.
Kakokwa said on Sunday, village head Noel Masvaure came across six elephants in Masvaure village and notified other villagers, who came to see the wild animals.
James Musiwacho (48) from Kunesu Village in Marange began taking pictures just before one of the elephants charged towards him and trampled him to death.
Police in Marange and officials from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) later visited the scene.
ZimParks spokesperson, Tinashe Farawo said the team in Marange was conducting investigations.
“It’s very unfortunate that a life has been lost, we have dispatched our team there [Marange] so that we can find out what really happened. The incident happened on Sunday in the morning,” he said.
“We are suspecting that the elephants came from Chiredzi where there is a park.”
