Johannesburg – The measles outbreak continues in a number of provinces. Cases are climbing and authorities are urging parents to make sure their children are up to date with their vaccinations.
Paediatrician Sanelisiwe Balfour says while measles should always be taken seriously, it’s the complications that are of major concern.
Much like the coronavirus, while your child may not suffer heavy symptoms, they could transmit the virus to others who will get seriously ill.
“Kids spread it to one another and they can spread it to people who are immuno-compromised or even pregnant women, which can lead to devastating effects,” she said.
