Days after celebrating his Grammys win on Sunday, Zakes Bantwini’s wife, Nandi Madida, and their son have had the horrible experience of witnessing a violent crime in South Africa. The model and media personality shared her harrowing account on her Twitter page.
On Tuesday, 7 February, a group of hijackers opened fire at a security guard after attempting to rob a female motorist on London Road in Linbro Park, north of Johannesburg and near Alexandra. According to EWN, the security guard returned fire, injuring the men, who were transported to Tembisa Hospital with gunshot wounds.
The incident caused a significant traffic gridlock, in which Zakes Bantwini’s wife, Nandi was caught up in.
Taking to Twitter, she shared how she had witnessed the shooting play out. She tweeted: “I was here with my son, on my way to drop him off at school. I had to distract him from the scene by playing videos on my phone. The state of this country is heartbreaking”
Nandi added: “Our kids live in fear. Something drastic has to change. We can’t all be living in fear”.
