More than 100 000 refugees have now crossed from Sudan to neighbouring countries to escape the conflict that erupted in the country on the 15th of last month.
A spokesperson at United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Olga Sarrado told journalists at a briefing in Geneva, Switzerland that more than 100 thousand people are estimated to be among people who have crossed to neighbouring countries.
Meanwhile, the United Nations’ special representative in Sudan, Volker Perthes says Sudan’s warring rivals have agreed to send representatives for negotiations, potentially in Saudi Arabia.
Mr Perthes told the Associated Press News Agency on Monday that the talks would initially focus on establishing a “stable and reliable” ceasefire monitored by national and international observers.
He said the two sides have already named their representatives for preliminary discussions but cautioned that logistics for talks are still being worked out.
Hundreds of people have been killed and thousands injured over 16 days of battles since disputes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary rapid support forces (RSF) erupted into conflict on the 15th of last month.
