Social media has not stopped buzzing over the rape allegations which have been levelled against local rapper Da LES. A young woman named Carlene Brown took to her Instagram page on Tuesday this week to accuse Da LES, real name Leslie Jonathan Mampe of s.e.xually assaulting her. Also according to her post, the rapper’s friends Mouse Mabonga and Sean Riley were also involved.
Reacting to the allegations, South Africans have slammed the justice system for not “taking rape claims seriously enough”. Others have defended the musician and argued that he is innocent until proven guilty.
In 2019, local rapper Da Les was named among a long list of alleged rapists and sex offenders in a Twitter thread made by anonymous victims.
The rapper denied the allegations in a tweet that read, “Yesterday was one of the worst days of my life. I was accused of something so unthinkable and was unable to respond (because the allegations were made by an anonymous source with no specifics).”
Because all of the victims chose to remain anonymous and hadn’t opened criminal cases, there were no serious repercussions for the alleged perpetrators.
Soon enough, the rape claims became old news and many of the alleged perpetrators were back to living their normal lives.
And now Da Les is once again trending after Carlene Brown De Jongh took to her Instagram stories and claimed that he s.e.xually assaulted her.
“Punk a** I’m coming after you, BLOODY rapists. Those that GANG Raped me special lightning special for you,” she wrote while naming the alleged rapists.

The controversial post was reshaped on Twitter by gossip blogger Musa Khawula and received hundreds of reactions from social media users who either slammed Carlene as an “attention seeker” or slammed the South African justice system.
Others wondered why he is named so frequently in rape claims.
“Da Les futhi?🤦♂️🤦♂️they can’t all be lying,” one person wrote while another said:
“We stand with the gents until a court of law has proven them guilty!”
Meanwhile, the “North God” has not commented on the claims.
