Jennifer Anniston opens up about her struggles with relationships

Jennifer Aniston has spoken candidly about her romantic life as she admitted she has always found relationships “a little bit difficult”.

The 54-year-old actress was famously married to Brad Pitt from 2000 until their divorce in 2005, with Brad starting a romance with Angelina Jolie shortly after. Jennifer moved on with Justin Theroux in 2011, but they split at the end of 2017.

Now she’s revealed that her approach to relationships was affected by her mother and father’s romance. Jennifer’s late parents, Nancy Dow and John Aniston, divorced when she was young.

“It was always a little bit difficult for me in relationships, I think, because I really was kind of alone,” she said in a new interview. Jennifer admitted that her mother and father’s relationship “didn’t make me kind of go, ‘Oh, I can’t wait to do that’.”

The Friends star said she has never been a fan of the idea of “sacrificing who you were or what you needed” for a relationship. She admitted this made it easer to “just be kind of solo”.

Speaking to WSJ Magazine, Jennifer said that she’s focusing on her own needs and explained: “It’s just about not being afraid to say what you need and what you want. And it’s still a challenge for me in a relationship.”

Jennifer has been divorced twice. She previously opened up about her past romances as she admitted she views her marriages as “very successful”.

“When they came to an end, it was a choice that was made because we chose to be happy, and sometimes happiness doesn’t exist within that arrangement anymore. Sure, there were bumps, and not every moment felt fantastic, obviously, but at the end of it, this is our one life and I would not stay in a situation out of fear.”
