Aaron Rodgers is on the road to recovery

The quarterback, 39, revealed in an Instagram Story post-Thursday that he underwent surgery to repair his left Achilles tendon that was torn during the New York Jets game against the Buffalo Bills Monday.

“Surgery went great yesterday,” he captioned an image of himself smiling and lying on a hospital bed. “Thank you for all the love and prayers and support.”

Rodgers added a goat emoji to recognize Dr. Neal ElAttrache and his staff and acknowledged them for helping start his recovery process. The Jets commented on Rodgers’ procedure by sharing his update on X, formally known as Twitter, with a message that read, “If we’ve learned one thing about 8, it’s that he’s a fighter.”

On Wednesday, Rodgers confirmed that the injury has left him out for the remainder of the season in a post on Instagram.

“I’m completely heartbroken and moving through all of the emotions, but deeply touched and humbled by the support and love. 💔 Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I begin the healing process today. 🙏 ♾️ ❤️,” wrote Rodgers.

He also used the post as an opportunity to thank those who have reached out to offer their support and vowed to “rise yet again.”

In the comment section, Rodgers received encouragement from his followers, including Aaron Paul, who wrote, “Sending love my friend! Rest up.❤️.” Jeremy Renner left a comment that read, “Hang in there my friend !!!”

According to ESPN, Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters Wednesday that he’d be “shocked if this is the way” Rodgers ends his football career. Saleh added that he hasn’t talked to Rodgers directly about his future and that he’s “working through a whole lot of headspace things that he needs to deal with.”

The injury occurred near the beginning of the first quarter of Monday night’s game after Bills linebacker Leonard Floyd sacked Rodgers. The game was Rodgers’ debut with the Jets after playing the first 14 seasons of his career with the Green Bay Packers.

After being traded by the Packers in April, the four-time NFL MVP signed a two-year, $75 million fully-guaranteed contract with the Jets that runs through the 2024 season in July.

Zach Wilson replaced Rodgers as the Jets’ starting quarterback Monday and helped lead the team to an overtime win over the Bills. He is expected to start on Sunday when the Jets play the Dallas Cowboys.
