Country singer Charlie Robison dies at 59

Country singer Charlie Robison has died at the age of 59, his representatives and family have confirmed. It has been revealed that the Texas-born musician sadly died on Sunday at a hospital in San Antonio after suffering cardiac arrest and other complications, according to reports. He celebrated his 59th birthday just mere days before his death. Charlie was born on September 4, 1964.

The country singer’s sister, Robyn Ludwick, confirmed her brother’s death with a tribute to Charlie on social media. The tribute was posted on Sunday. She said that she was “broken in the deepest most irreparable way”.

Writing her moving tribute, Robyn penned: “My big brother Charlie passed away in the arms of his loved ones. Please play some Charlie Robison on Repeat. He would want it that way.”

His wife Kristen also confirmed his death. Taking to Facebook she said: “It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that my husband, Charlie Robison, has passed away today, surrounded by his family and friends. My heart is broken. Please pray for me, our children and our family.”

The country star began his career in the 1980s. The beginning stages of his rise to prominence saw him play in local bands in the Austin, Texas area. He then finally released his solo debut album in 1996, which was called Bandera.

His best-known songs are Life of the Party, My Hometown and I Want You Bad. His solo career spanned from the late 90s until the late 2010s. Losing the ability to sing, Charlie revealed that he would never sing again after complications from throat surgery.

In a statement, Charlie revealed that following surgery, he was left with the “permanent inability to sing”. Revealing to fans that he was retiring from singing, he said: “Therefore, with a very heavy heart I am officially retiring from the stage and studio.” He concluded the lengthy and very sad announcement with: “It’s been fun. Love each and every one of y’all.”

But defying all odds, he resumed his music career last year in 2022 and even embarked on a tour. Charlie had four children and was married to Kristen, whom he is survived by. Prior to marrying Kristen, Charlie was married to The Chicks country star Emily Strayer, whom he shared three of his children with.
