Mzansi star and Africa’s number one female DJ, DJ Zinhle said Kairo broke down and cried after performing at the Galaxy 947 Joburg Day show.
Taking to her Instagram timeline on Sunday, the mom of two explained how her daughter was missing her dad, the rapper late AKA.
“After bravely performing her dad’s song in front of thousands of people, my eight-year-old broke down crying, saying she misses her daddy and wishes he was here. Kairo tries a lot to suppress her feelings and this is one of the few times I’ve seen her cry like that. This is happening while @thando_thabethe is announcing me for my performance. @nadianakai is so brave. She took over as I walked onto the stage crying and heartbroken. Halfway into my first song, @kairo.forbes was standing next me – check the last slide. You can see she literally wiped her tears and stood bravely next to me. I am so proud of her but I wish she didn’t need to be so brave. I wish she still had her dad,” she wrote.
Rapper Nadia Nakai took to her own timeline to share how proud she was of her late partner’s daughter.
“I love her so much. She did so amazing tonight. Her dad would’ve been so proud. Thank you to the @themegaband for tonight,” she wrote.
AKA’s mother Lynn Forbes recently opened up about her grief, saying it altered her entire being.
“I’ve always believed my heart was big and spacious with many rooms to accommodate many people. These days I often feel like where my heart used to be there is just a big hole in my chest, without space even for myself. Grief is not something you get over. It never ends. You just learn to live with it and grow around it. And in the moments when it feels like the band aid is being ripped off the healing wound, you start all over again, until the next time and the next time and the next time,” she wrote.
