The Mandela family confirmed the death of Zoleka Mandela on Monday evening through a family statement.
She was the grand-daughter of the late former President Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
In August 2022, Zoleka had announced that her cancer had returned.
A month later, she began treatment for the cancer in her lungs, liver, ribs, spinal cord and hips. Zoleka Mandela was an author and activist who had open about her terminal illness and a plan for the eventuality of her death.
On 17 September Mandela who often updated her fans about her battle with cancer took to Instagram to share the latest health update.
“I had a CT Scan administered a few weeks back, which have shown that I have blood clots as well as Fibrosis in my lung. This explains the chest pains I had been feeling.
“My Medical Oncologist has recommended blood thinners and Oral Chemo. On the upside, I’m incredibly grateful that I am still treatable! I’m off to bed … Good night … Good morning, beloved hearts! Love, the Oros Lady (I feel like my face just gets more rotund and puffy by the day!) Peace. Passion. Positivity,” she captioned a video she had shared.
In 2022, many hearts broke after South African author Zoleka Mandela revealed that she was diagnosed with bone cancer. The mother of six shared a lengthy post about the diagnosis and left her followers saddened by discussing her children who will be left motherless when she passes on.
