Urban grooves duo Jimmy Mangezi and Norman Manwerepopurlaly known as Maroja says Extra Large has become more than just a name with an unbreakable bond that a fallout would be awkward.

In an interview with NewsDay Life & Style, Mangezi and Manwere said they met at the tender age of six and grew up together and shared valuable life experiences.

“The journey has been both exciting and adventurous for us. We have experienced life’s ups and downs together and we are very fortunate to have each other for encouragement and support,” Mangezi said.

He noted that the main element that has sustained their relationship is mutual respect and complementing each other.

“We use one’s weakness as another one’s strength. The pattern goes on and on and we cannot be broken down. A lot of respected people have been involved, families and relatives such that a fallout between us will not only affect us both but everyone involved,” Mangezi said.

He also spoke about rumours of the duo separating in 2019.

“People misunderstood the statement that we were taking a break from music, not from each other as a group. It is not practical, that will never happen.”

The duo is working on a new album and a video compilation of the album. A documentary about the duo’s journey as Extra Large is also one of their major projects lined up. They have also ventured into expanding their brand with a clothing line.

The duo started their music journey in 2003 with popular songs such as Uri Roja, Wafa Wanaka, Dzakafa Hadzidhonzane, Muti Wemusango and Kushamula Newe.

Residents of Beitbridge are expressing outrage at local police officers, accusing them of negligence for allowing two suspected armed robbers, who were arrested following a community tip-off, to escape custody. Some residents believe that corruption may have played a role in the suspects’ release.

National police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi responded to the allegations, stating that reports from Beitbridge indicated that the two suspects escaped to South Africa while leading the police during investigations.
