Almost a year after the untimely death of Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes, his father, Tony Forbes, has opened up about his family’s relationship with the Tembes. Moses Tembe is the father of Anele, who was once AKA’s girlfriend. She died in April 2021 after falling from the 10th floor of the Pepper Club Hotel in Loop Street, Cape Town.
She was in a relationship with AKA when she died. Almost two years after her passing, AKA was shot dead on 10 February 2023 in Durban. No doubt their deaths have often thrust their families into top trends.
However, Tony Forbes recently opened up about his family’s relationship with the Tembes and how they had a fallout. While on the ‘Within With Hazel’ podcast, Tony revealed that the Forbes family barred the Tembes from AKA’s funeral.
He revealed that Moses Tembe and his family requested to join the rest of the mourners in Johannesburg, but the Forbes family felt uncomfortable. Tony made it known that the family’s decision was based on the news that was being peddled on social media.
Despite allowing the Forbes family to be part of her daughter’s memorial and funeral services, AKA’s family felt uncomfortable with his presence at their son’s funeral.

After failing to attend AKA’s funeral, Moses Tembe revealed that his absence was due to security concerns.
Speaking to the media in 2023, Tembe said, “For security reasons, we’re not communicating our movements.” This was in response to a question about whether he will be part of AKA’s final farewell. It seems the Forbes family barred him from the funeral rather than security reasons, as peddled by the media.
