I’m mainly here again this year to support our South African nominees at the Grammys.
We had Zakes and Nomcebo and Wouter win last year, which was fantastic, and this year African music is on a much bigger platform which is really amazing. Tyla joins an elite crop of South Africans to win a Grammy that includes Zakes Bantwini, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Soweto Gospel Choir, Black Coffee, Nomcebo Zikode, Wouter Kellerman and Miriam Makeba.
During the awards ceremony, held at the Staples Center, Tyla delivered a stunning performance of “Water” that had the audience on their feet, dancing and singing along. Dressed in a vibrant ensemble that paid homage to her African roots, Tyla’s presence on stage was electrifying, further cementing her status as a global music icon. South Africans are proud of the success and they’ve celebrated her on social media platforms.
