UK-based Zimbabwean producer Rymez receives Grammy nomination

Rodney “Rymez” Hwingwiri, a UK-based Zimbabwean music producer, is making waves in the industry with his recent nomination for a Latin Grammy Award. This recognition comes for his work on the hit song “Amor” by Venezuelan musician Danny Ocean, a track that has propelled Ocean to his first Billboard number-one hit.

The Latin Grammy Awards, presented by the Latin Recording Academy, honor exceptional achievements in the Latin music scene. The awards celebrate works recorded in Spanish or Portuguese and released in Ibero-America, which includes Latin America, Spain, Portugal, and Latino communities in the U.S. and Canada. In a post on Facebook, Rymez shared his excitement with followers, stating, “Got my first Grammy nomination yesterday.” The winners of the prestigious awards will be announced on November 17.

Born in Kariba, Zimbabwe, Rymez’s passion for music was fostered by his parents’ eclectic musical tastes, ranging from UB40 to the late Dr. Oliver Mtukudzi. At the age of 13, he migrated to the UK with his family, where music became a vital escape from the rigors of school life. His classmates affectionately dubbed him “Rymez” due to his talent for performing poems and raps between lessons.

Rymez has built an impressive career, collaborating with a diverse array of artists, including Wretch 32, Sean Paul, Fuse ODG, Wizkid, Skepta, JME, Kojo Funds, Future, Stefflon Don, Idris Elba, X Factor winner James Arthur, Krept & Konan, Cassper Nyovest, Amplify Dot, Tory Lanez, and Fivio Foreign, among others. As he prepares for the upcoming awards, Rymez’s nomination not only highlights his individual talent but also showcases the growing influence of Zimbabwean artists on the global music stage.
