The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 20-year-old man in connection with an armed robbery and homicide that took place in the Danbare Quarters area of Kano on the morning of Monday, May 5, 2025. In a press release issued on Tuesday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, revealed that the Police received a distress call at approximately 6:40 a.m. A resident reported that two armed assailants had broken into the home of a man identified as Shehu Muhammad, aged 30, and attacked him with a sharp cutlass. According to SP Kiyawa, the attackers inflicted multiple injuries on the victim during the assault. Acting swiftly on the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, deployed tactical response teams and criminal investigation detectives to the crime scene. Police arrived at the scene and found the victim in a life-threatening condition Upon arrival, police operatives found the victim in critical condition. He was quickly transported to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by attending medical personnel. The tragic incident sent shockwaves through the community and prompted an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators. At the scene of the crime, police arrested one of the suspected attackers, identified as 20-year-old Aliyu Umar. Officers also recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the assault—a blood-stained cutlass. Umar is currently in police custody and is reportedly cooperating with investigators as they work to identify and apprehend the second suspect, who remains at large. “The arrest marks a significant step forward in our pursuit of justice for the victim and his family,” CP Bakori said in the official statement. “We want to make it absolutely clear: criminal behavior will not be tolerated in any part of Kano State. We are committed to ensuring the safety of our communities and bringing perpetrators to justice.” The police command has assured the public that the investigation is progressing, and that all necessary measures are being taken to apprehend the second suspect. Once the investigation is complete, Aliyu Umar will be formally charged and arraigned in court.
