We have received the heartbreaking news of the passing of our very own Tendai Ndoro. According to Moreboys Munetsi, the former Orlando Pirates striker was found dead in his apartment in South Africa. While the exact circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, it is known that Ndoro had been struggling with health challenges in recent years.
Tendai Ndoro’s later years were marked by serious health challenges that drew widespread concern across the football community. In 2021, shocking images surfaced showing the once-prolific striker visibly frail after battling illness, with reports suggesting he had suffered complications related to diabetes. At one point, he reportedly lost a significant amount of weight and even temporarily lost his eyesight, forcing him to step away from football completely.
Though he later appeared to regain some strength, Tendai Ndoro’s health struggles persisted, and by May 2025 he was again hospitalised in Durban, South Africa, where reports indicated he had undergone surgery to remove a tumour under his armpit. His declining health not only highlighted the vulnerability of athletes after retirement but also drew attention to the need for stronger support systems for former footballers in Zimbabwe and beyond.
