Liam Payne has been temporarily prohibited from driving following a speeding conviction handed down by U.K. courts, according to multiple reports.
The former One Direction star is banned from getting behind the wheel for six months by Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court in London as a result of a speeding incident that occurred in February, the BBC reported.
Payne, 30, was seen at the time driving a Ford pick-up truck in the Shepherd’s Bush neighborhood of London, where he was going 43 mph in a 30 mph zone, the outlet said.
In addition to the driving ban, Payne had to pay a monetary fine, per The Evening Standard. The singer was not required to appear in court. Payne, in a message to the court, wrote that he “did not realize the speed limit and apologize for speeding,” the Standard said.
PEOPLE reached out to both Payne’s representatives as well as the U.K. Ministry of Justice for comment, but neither immediately responded.
The singer last made headlines in August when he had to cancel his South American tour due to a “serious kidney infection.”
“Hey guys this really is the last news I want to be telling you but basically I’ve been a little bit unwell recently and I ended up in the hospital with a bad kidney infection,” he noted in a video posted to X (formerly known as Twitter). “We’ve started rehearsals and I’ve just been advised that now’s really not the right time to be out on the road trying to recover from this.”
Payne and his team have not made any announcements regarding rescheduled tour dates in the wake of the cancellation.
